pazl_021107_b.jpgToday shops offer improbable number of various puzzles, compound pictures. The purpose of given puzzles – collect a whole image from separate details.

Compound pictures happen have level of complexity, which raises with years. All compound pictures can be classified on 4 kinds:

1) pictures loose leaves
2) cut pictures
3) cubes with images
4) puzzles

First three categories already became “classics”, and puzzles appeared not so long ago and get increasing popularity every year. Not only children, but also adults collect puzzles with great pleasure.

So, let’s consider each of categories listed above in detail.

Pictures-loose leaves

They are very effective in formation and development of children evident-shaped thinking. Pictures-loose leaves represent pictures with cut out parts. It is necessary to find missing slices and enclose them on their places. For example, it is necessary to build a row of elephants different in size.

The simplest variant of the given game, when a cut out element has equal edges and drawing represented on it is symmetric is, for example, a circle and the sun represented on it. After a child starts copyng easily with the given task, it is possible to offer him a deckle-edged picture. The following stage of complexity: a picture with equal cut out edges is offered to a child, and here an image on it is already asymmetrical, for example, a chicken represented on a square. A child should try inserting a chicken correctly, instead of head over heels. Then it is possible to offer a child loose leaves, in which cut out elements are a part of an image. For example, geometrical train.

This game created as frameworks-loose leaves will acquaint a child with different geometrical forms, concepts of size, colour, a part and whole. Playing with train, a child develops attention, memory, speech, logic thinking, motility of hands, imagination.

At first consider train together with a child. Ask him to name details he knows. If a kid does not speak yet, name details. Tell at accessible level who operates a steam locomotive and how it works.

Our train has many details - taken out loose leaves in the form of geometrical figures: big and small circles, triangles, rectangles, squares, semicircles, trapeze. Take out figures. Consider them and suggest to think up, what they are similar to. Circles – the Sun, the Moon, a plate, a coin etc.

Children like loose leaves with an intermediate layer very much. Let’s examine a game “House”.

This, more difficult framework-loose leaf, is made as an elementary puzzle consisting of 10 parts. An internal device of a house is drawn under loose leaves. Under each loose leaf there is any room:  bathroom, children’s, kitchen, under a roof – an attic, and under a cloudlet you can find a cheerful sun, bird’s nests on a tree, and a dog lives in a kennel near the house.

Show a kid how loose leaves are taken out from a framework, naming parts of the house and explaining what is under them: «This is roof, there is an attic under it, old things are stored there». If a child already speaks, ask him, lifting a loose leaf: «Who lives here?», «How this room is called? Do we have such room?».

After a kid has remembered the house organization, try to collect a puzzle. At first take out one or several parts and ask «to repair the house». Then try to disassemble the house completely, so that a child could collect it.

If a child has already mastered coherent speech, ask him thinking up a story about inhabitants of the house. Think up their names, where they work or study, how they spend time.

Cut pictures

Cut pictures represent pictures cut on straight lines (in most cases) to lines. You can start playing with simplest cut pictures (one large subject is represented and divided on two parts) since 1,6 years. In due course it is possible to complicate tasks, offering a kid pictures consisting from bigger number of details (6, 8, 12 elements).

The purpose of this game for the smallest ones - is explanation of concepts of a part and whole, working off of mechanical skills (to put a necessary detail on a proper place) and assiduity. In process bases of such qualities, as ability to combine, synthesise whole of details are developed; there is an active development of speech, emotional sphere, visually-impellent coordination and spatial perception.

A child should learn “seeing” a picture in details, keep it in memory and repeat independently, mentally overturning and combining parts.

Game is calculated on the smallest ones and if you do not teach a child to bases, a kid can quickly lose interest to it, therefore at the first stages, if he does not consult, help him.

Collect pictures, tell, what is represented on them, set leading questions in process, ask riddles about represented subjects -  “What colour a pear is? Let’s find it” etc.

Offer a child collecting almost ready picture, having added one detail independently, then each time complicate the task - two details, three; as a result a child should not just make a picture independently, but also choose the necessary one from mixed parts.

Accompany game by verses, riddles, suggest a child to count, how many plums are on a picture, and how many cherries - use already collected pictures as visual aid for development of speech and bases of oral counting.

You can make cut pictures by yourself. However, thus (and at purchase in a shop) it is necessary for you to pay attention that the subject represented on pictures should be familiar to a child and bright.

Cubes with images

Cubes are a game favourite by almost all kids. During game evident-shaped thinking, ability to work on the sample, visual memory, attention, and logic are developed. It is possible to begin employment from 2 years.

By means of cubes you can acquaint a child, for example, with fruits. Thus tell, where they grow, what you can cook from them - adding new words and concepts in a child’s active dictionary.

Enclose a drawing-sample with fruit image on a box bottom. Ask a child finding the necessary part of a cube and enclose in a box. As a result of cubes assemblage, you receive a drawing, and your kid gets acquainted with concepts «a part and whole», learns working on the sample.

Further, it is possible to ask a child combining drawing without use of a picture of the sample – visual attention and memory work in this case. Collecting drawing, make comments on child’s actions: have put a cube top right, now bottom left – developing ability to be guided in space.

It is possible to complicate employment gradually, suggesting a child collecting a picture from 9 cubes. Offering game, turn at first all cubes one side. It will help a child orienting in game rules easier. Then start complicating a problem, having turned one cube not that side, then do it with two, three.

Puzzles

Puzzles get increasing popularity every year. And there is nothing surprising in this! After all this game develops imagination, logic thinking, small muscular motility, attention, integrity of perception.

Puzzles differ from listed above cut pictures by the fact that they have a curve of details connection. Here a child should compare form of one detail with forms of next details. Thus it is necessary for him to consider what is represented on them and whether an integral image is received at their connection.

You can start collecting puzzles since approximately 3,5 - 4 years. However, here it is necessary to consider a child’s interest and complexity of puzzles. It is necessary to start with puzzles, which include a small number of large details. In due course it is possible to complicate, increasing quantity of details and reducing the size of details. Subjects represented on puzzles, should be familiar to a child. It is desirable, if one large subject is, for example, your kid’s favourite cartoon hero. Also it will be better, if a separate image recognised by a child is represented on a detail.

If you have started collecting puzzles for the first time, it will be necessary for you to collect a picture, and then remove 2-3 details and tell a child for example: «I have collected a picture, but strong wind has blown and taken away some details. Can you help me collecting it again?». With small children you can think out a fairy tale during this entertaining process, study world around. For example «Who is drawn on this slice? A doggie? And what a doggie does? It sits.» And so on.

Well, older children, whose imagination is already developed well, and they know game rules, can «wipe the slate clean».
