Fertility and man’s age

dv1103044.jpgAll organs of human body are subjected to the process of ageing, same concerns sperm. Just recently people paid little attention on age recession of man’s fertility, as there were quite frequent cases, when men could impregnate their wives being already in declining years. There is even a matter of record, saying that a man kept ability to fertilization up to 94 years.

However, this is rather a unique case, than widely-used fact. With age man’s ability for fertilization reduces, and this fact is nowadays subjected to close investigation.

What happens with man’s fertility with age? Ageing affects quantity of mature sperm cells. It was proved that reduction of active sperm cells production starts already in the age of 25. This is connected with constant lowering of testosterone quantity.

After 40 years testosterone production recession becomes especially evident, what leads to lowering of bone and muscular mass, loss of sexual excitability, and reduction of possibility to produce mature sperm cells, erectile problems.

There are following after-effects of age influence on sperm.

Low mobility – spermatozoa do not ripen enough to gain necessary mobility to reach ovule and fertilize it.

Efficiency lowering – unripe spermatozoa lose not only mobility, but also lack powers to move forward and fertilize ovule.

Lowered ejaculation – ejaculation weakens with age, sperm is thrown out not as far, as necessary.

Genetic background changes – with age risk of sperm cells’ genetic mutation development increases significantly. Sperm cells are formed through cell fission. If at least one mutating cell creeps, it starts dividing, and quantity of “spoilt” cells increases in geometric series.

What you can do?

Regardless of the fact sperm starts undergoing age changes since 25 years, on average, men keep fertility up to 60-70 years. To keep fit in middle age, you need, as you know, lead healthy way of living, eat well and go in for sport.
