A group of scientists from the University of Texas, USA, determined ideal age
for first baby delivery.
American doctors made a conclusion, that the best age for a woman to give birth
is 34 years. By this very time an optimal balance between a woman`s health and
her living standard is reached, as professor John Mirowsky says.
Having studied medical data of 2200 women, Mirowsky came to a conclusion, that
delay in family creation and delivery of first-born has rational reasons. Basic
problems with woman`s health begin decreasing from 22 years and by 34 years they
almost disappear, since 35 years reverse process starts.
That`s why Mirowsky states: “From medical point of view, a woman, giving birth
to her first baby when she is 34, is 14 years younger, than a woman, giving birth
when she is 18″.

This happens because a woman treats her health more carefully with age, behaves
not so risky, like when she was 20, and usually has permanent sexual partner.
This is also confirmed by sociological data: thus, in USA, average age, when married
women give birth to first babies, is 25 years, in Great Britain - 30 years.
Melanie Every, an official representative of Royal College for Midwifery, rather
agrees with American colleagues conclusions. He assumes, that results of investigations
are rather dependant on economical “health”, that on ideal age: “So-called go-getter
women, who postpone childbirth, have higher income, higher level of education,
better diet and living conditions, in other words, better social and financial
conditions, being little bit more “adult” in this meaning can be an advantage”.
However, many experts do not share this point of view. Thus, Cecil Piper from
Oxford University accentuates, that a woman`s fertility begins lowering since
35 years, correspondingly, there can be problems with impregnation.
Besides, during breastfeeding ovulation is being suppressed, this means a woman,
who gave birth to a first baby in 34, won`t be able to have another baby till
37-38 years, and it is most difficult to keep pregnancy in this age.

John Mirowsky generally agrees with his critics: “It`s clearly obvious, that
reproductive system begins fading away, so it is risky to postpone childbirth.
It`s necessary to find balance, weigh various problems”. “However, my investigations
testify to the fact that, from merely physical point of view, you shouldn`t be
afraid to have a baby after 30 years, quite the contrary. And this is a very important
moment. A 34 y.o. woman has no reasons to worry about time of her pregnancy. Social
and economical advantages, connected with transfer of childbirth to more adult
age, compensate process of ageing.”
